Links to an external site.In Radio and Television I & II emphasis is placed on introducing students to career opportunities, production, programming, promotion, sales, performance, and equipment operation.  During a normal year, job shadowing, field trips, and internships are encouraged ... but right now due to Covid-19 none are being approved. Nevertheless the curriculum allows students to investigate careers available by conducting job searches in digital communications and the entertainment media.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Fox News Multimedia Reporters Training Program (MMR) is part of FOX’s ongoing mission to invest in talent. It was implemented in 2011 to build a pipeline for the next generation of skilled, hardworking multiplatform journalists. The Multimedia Reporters operate as one-person-bands with the ability to go live virtually anytime, anywhere. Throughout this two-year experience, the reporters are provided with the tools, resources and guidance to develop a comprehensive skill set that prepares them for future work in the field.


As a General Assignment Multimedia Reporter focused on weather, you’ll be responsible for monitoring and reporting on weather developments happening in your region. Each day, you will gather news information, conduct live and taped interviews, write stories and deliver weather-related news reports across all Fox News Media platforms. You will respond to severe weather-related breaking news on short notice in your region and at times, nationwide. Your focus will be weather, but may be required to assist in coverage with other news events. You will also develop unique stories for enterprise pieces related to weather that appeal to a national audience.


A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Initiate and create weather-related news content for daily stories and breaking news across multiple FOX platforms, including Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox Weather, Fox News Digital, Fox News EDGE, & Fox News Radio
  • Constantly track weather systems
  • Research, write, produce, edit and report original news stories related to weather, including appropriate video, graphics and audio packages
  • Shoot, edit and transmit content in the field utilizing FOX-provided equipment for daily and breaking news coverage
  • Communicate with management regarding story development while working alongside news managers, assignment editors and producers to generate news packages
  • Establish a strong network of sources and contacts within the community in order to develop story leads and ongoing relationships


WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Professional on-camera/field reporting experience, maximum of 3 years
  • In-depth knowledge of weather science
  • Ability to relocate to a new city with a 30-day or less notice
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced news environment
  • A valid driver’s license and safe driving record

 

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER

  • A four-year college degree, emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology, with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • AMS Certification preferred


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience reporting for a local television station and/or college television station
  • Exceptional writing, research, and on-air presentation skills including knowledge of AP style
  • Adept in the field and capable of responsibly handling a live news situation
  • Strong working knowledge of multimedia production, including previous experience with non-linear editing and CMS platforms
  • Ability to work independently and unilaterally with minimum on-site support and supervision
  • A team player who takes initiative
  • Ability to relocate to any location - geographic mobility is a must
  • Ability to work nights, holidays and weekends, often with short notice
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
  • Must be willing to sign a two-year employment contract
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S.


DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Exceptional candidates who have a natural affinity for storytelling, a love for news, a strong work ethic and a passion to succeed
  • A candidate must be able to work independently, have outstanding time management skills and complete required assignments on deadline
  • Prior experience within the field as a general assignment reporter, reporting and/or editing news stories for all broadcast and digital media platforms
