TITLE: Multimedia & Content Specialist for Edmonds School District

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for social media management, content creation, digital media production, and internal/external communications support. Additionally, this position will also be responsible for researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating communications for special projects. This role requires meeting tight deadlines, high-quality writing skills and a can-do attitude. This role will require adaptability to perform other additional duties or tasks as designated by the Communications Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Media Management

Oversees and manages social media platforms for the Edmonds School District. Posts photos, streams live content, creates graphics, writes articles/stories, shares special events, and communicates important information on social media platforms.

Writes articles/stories for newsletters, social media, and District websites; strategically schedules the posting of social media content/events across multiple platforms; ensures that communication is cohesive, consistent, informative, and effective in supporting the District’s strategic direction.

Monitors social media platforms to report key conversations, escalating conversations, and controversial conversations to the District. Find opportunities to positively engage with the community/public on social media platforms.

Finds insights, analyzes performance, and maximizes outreach of social media platforms. Utilizes social media tools and/or software to generate reports and analyze data.

Collaborates and coordinates with department managers and program managers within the Edmonds School District to create new media/content for social media platforms.

Responds to controversial questions or complex inquiries from external individuals and organizations posted on District social media sites. Collaborates with the Communications Manager to conduct thorough research, collect data, or gain insight.
Content Creation
7. Develops, executes, and approves communications content consistent with the District’s brand. Collaborates with other professionals to maintain the District’s positive brand image in the community, generate awareness, and publicize the District’s successes. Brainstorm and execute creative ideas to post for the Edmonds School District.
8. Develops, executes, and approves the production of audio, video, and social media-related programs, or other communications projects for use by the District or local media.
9. Removes, updates, and adds content on the District website, social media platforms, and other digital media platforms. Determines the value of content and prioritizes the posting of content efficiently.
Digital Media Production

Utilizes professional camera(s), lighting equipment, and editing software to produce high quality professional photographs and videos for YouTube, Facebook, other social media platforms, the District website, and internal and external distribution.

Researches needs, projects timelines, strategizes video production, logs interviews, schedules interviews, selects music, selects supporting graphics, and reviews story creation to produce high quality video content.

Utilizes high definition video equipment, audio equipment, lighting, and editing software to produce high quality video and/or audio content. Sets up sound, lighting, and/or video equipment to produce high quality video and/or audio content.

Makes photo and video products available in a variety of formats for optimal viewing on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms, the District website, and internal and external distribution.

Serves as a consultant/resource for school administrators related to applications, software, equipment, infrastructure, development, and programming relative to digital media.
Media Relations
15. Writes press releases for media distribution, District website, and social media platforms.
Other Functions

Attends meetings and participates on committees, as needed, to support assigned projects and functional areas of responsibility.

Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge related to software and equipment pertaining to digital media/content creation.

May perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position, such as monitoring and maintaining the District website, troubleshooting complex issues, and
ensuring applications and sites are functioning correctly.

Assist in after-hours School Board meetings for digital support.

May perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position, such as approving general communications content or emergency/crisis communications content in the absence of the Communications Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Communications/Media or a related field, and four (4) or more years of related experience.
- Must have a valid Washington state driver’s license and must have a reliable method of transportation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
● Knowledge of computers and computer software, including Google Suite applications.
● Knowledge of utilizing digital editing software/applications to produce professional
video content in a timely manner (WeVideo, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro,
YouTube, etc).
● Knowledge of digital content management in relation to correspondence, articles,
newsletters, news releases, blogs, and other content.
● Knowledge and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,
disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students,
faculty, and staff.
● Knowledge of developing, implementing, and delivering training/professional
development programs.
● Knowledge of when to escalate issues, prioritize urgent tasks, and manage projects.
● Knowledge of planning, implementation, and evaluation in relation to communications.
● Skill in editing photographs for content with editing software/applications in a timely
manner (such as editing photographs for lighting, exposure, background, focus,
composition, shadow, etc.).
● Skill in writing informational campaigns, publications, reports, presentations, media
releases, speeches, and other communications products.
● Skill in working and communicating effectively with communities of diverse cultural
background, various levels of education, possess cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
● Skill in managing multiple priorities and working with minimum supervision (strong
organizational skills, planning skills, and time-management skills).
● Skill in project management with evidence of successful project completion on time and
within budget.
● Skill in customer service orientation.
● Skill in effective interpersonal communication.
● Skill in thorough planning, organization of schedule, time management, and project
management.
● Ability to learn and stay current with technology required for the performance of duties,
including website software/content management systems and social media platforms.

● Ability to coordinate multiple assignments while meeting required deadlines and quality standards.
● Ability to work effectively with a variety of District staff, parents, and the public.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Municipal or other local government experience desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to perform extensive work at computer display terminal. May be required to work additional hours, including evenings/weekends for School Board meetings or events.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, see, hear, and speak. Occasionally lifts and/or moves 10 to 20 pounds.
