Weekly Twitter Activity Directions - Checking for Understanding Exit Ticket - 10 points
Read the following material and submit the exit ticket below when finished
Why is Twitter so important in the world of TV & Radio & Business:
-
Of all the social media giants, Twitter is still the most prolific in the journalism world. It has been heralded as the top social site for breaking news, with lots of big stories breaking on the Twittersphere before reaching major cable stations.
-
Why is Twitter such a great platform for breaking news and following stories? First, it’s instant.
-
Nearly two-thirds of the Twitter population in the US use Twitter to get news on the platform, according to statistics. They follow credible news organizations, news media accounts, important community, state, nation leaders.
- Reporters can do more than just Tweet out links, they interact with their followers if they so choose to get the most out of their time spent on Twitter.
- MMJs can make the most out of Twitter by engaging with their audiences to grow their followers.
- Twitter is a window into what’s happening in the world, which is why some of the most active Twitter accounts belong to journalists. News often breaks first on Twitter, and everyone from national media outlets to reporters on the ground often use Twitter to update the public on developing stories.
How Twitter applies to being part of PTV Radio TV Program:
- Our PTV Radio TV Program has a weekly TV show for PHS students, staff & the community & beyond
- Our show is not on network TV, our only channel in our YouTube Channel
- To promote our weekly content (news & sports coverage) our only means to promote our show externally is social media & internally via one email to all staff and students at PHS we send out on our show posting day
- Twitter is the only required social media platform all students in the program are required to have
- Being in the Radio TV program means you are automatically a MMJ Multimedia Journalist for PTV
- You will use your Twitter account to help promote our content and our shows-plus your content
- Promoting our program and content via social media is all we have externally to promote our show to students, staff and the outside world. We do not have a real TV station in Plymouth the community can simply watch. Without promoting our show no one knows we have a show and when and where they can see it.
Your Weekly Twitter Requirements - Nov. 2020 through May 2021 each week that we have a show
- Once we start consistent programming... meaning we have launched our #PTVatPHS show - students in the program establish their own Twitter account - see assignment
- Lykowski using the #PTVatPHS Twitter account, will Tweet out weekly promotional Tweets to promote the show, this could happen prior to the show being posted or after, or both
- This duty was handled by smart, leading PTVers in past years and hopeful will be once again if we can grow the program to be what it is supposed to be and is at other schools
- In the Tweets Lykowski will "tag" you in any promotional Tweets
- You are simply required to retweet the tweets that you are tagged in
- You will receive a weekly promotional Tweet grade this year for actively checking your Twitter account and retweeting tweets weekly.
- The week will follow a traditional calendar week - so ... Monday 12 am end on Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
- If you miss retweeting the Tweets that week - retweeting the tweets late will not count as a make up to your grade and are NOT wanted, suggested and will not serve as a makeup and will not earn you points
- Twitter is instant -- old- non relevant content Tweeted weeks and months later.
- Old material being tweeted looks like you have no idea what you are doing or you are fake spam account and your account might even be reported as spam to Twitter.
- Make sure you check your account at least once a week to see what you are tagged in.
- Lykowski will not be sending our reminders that a tweet has been posted and you are tagged- it is not necessary if you are checking your account, which is your responsibility to log in to your account weekly - if not daily.
- Twitter will send you a notification if you choose the option that you want to be notified if someone mentions your account. So it should be relatively easy for you to be notified.
- This is it.
- There is no submission for this weekly requirement that is broken down into 10 points per week. However if time permits ... the weekly Twitter requirement might be added to the Canvas account under assignments to serve as a reminder to you to not to forget.
- The grade will not appear in PowerSchool until the end of every month.
- Important to note: If PTV puts out no tweets during the week -- due to Lykowski being the only one running the account ... due to ... not having any hands-on marketing students now... due to the class being a IDOE state required Principles of Marketing "serious" class now. Last year and in years past PHS marketing students were able to pretty much manage the PTV website and the content and help with social media - now we have no one.
Extra credit points (each week 5-10) for your weekly grade:
-
- Will be awarded to students who are actually actively using their Twitter account to Tweet and retweet material outside of our easy requirements above... that promotes the community, our program, or shares in general news (good or bad) going on in the world, city, community, state that is from a legit news organization, sports team, school club, whatever so be it that makes you look knowledgable on what's going on in the world.
- You are encouraged to build your followers - honestly speaking in the world of being a news personality, MMJ, reporter, an anchor, Twitter in honestly like a popularity contest -- and you want followers and as many as you can get
-
IMPORTANT TO NOTE - IN NEWS/SPORTS your followers:
- a. like you
- b. trust your ability to do your job accurately
- c. want to see what you are posting, read your Tweets and reTweets
-
IMPORTANT TO NOTE - IN NEWS/SPORTS your followers:
- You are asked to Tweet something from your account to help PTV or to your the PTV Twitter account to Tweet something due to Lykowski not being able to fit it in. This could count as your weekly grade if you haven't already complete your weekly requirements
Cool and not so cool facts about Tweeting
- Twitter is supposed to be quick, easy and instant
- Twitter has a character limit of 280 characters which includes spaces. Emojis sometime count as more than 1 space
- Unfortunately if you make a typo on your Tweet you have to delete it because there is no way to fix it
- You can tag up to 10 people on every photo or GFX, video clip you post
